March Madness took over at the Williams’ Gymnasium on the campus of Carolina University this year as CU hosted the NCCAA DI South Regional Tournament for Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Men’s Basketball put up a great fight but fell in the semi-finals. Women’s Basketball reached the Championship game but came up short. The Bruins still had plenty to boast about this season. Men’s Basketball players Kester Ofoegbu and Micah Cooper were named to the NCCAA DI South All-Region 1st Team, and Drue Aguilera was named to the 2nd Team. Women’s Basketball qualified for the NCCAA DI National Tournament and is led by 1st Team All-Region player Jada Sleet and Honorable Mention Team Players Tazah Hardin Ni’Jaa Wells.
The weather is warming up, and so are Carolina University Softball and Baseball. The Bruins Softball pitcher, Lyric Ryan, set a school record of 12 strikeouts in a single game. Ryan’s pitching helped lead CU to a three-game win-streak this month. Baseball is in the middle of its three-game win-streak behind a powerful performance from the pitcher, Charlee Edwards. Edwards delivered a complete-game shutout with 15 strikeouts. The Bruins have currently outscored opponents 40-18 over this intense stretch.
