On the second day of Giving Tuesday my Piedmont shared with me TWO special anniversaries. Plans are being made to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Carolina University and the 117th anniversary of John Wesley University.

Due to the merger of our two schools, we are now the oldest biblical University in North Carolina. Dr. Steve Condon was President of JWU and now serves as Chancellor of the combined University. He said, “Let’s pull two historic biblical universities together and build the monster.” He has inspired us with the goal of doing far more together than either school could have done alone.

CU’s President Charles Petitt said, “We brought together Baptists, Methodists, Wesleyans, Moravians, Presbyterians, Church of God, etc. and we haven’t killed each other yet!” Instead of striving against each other, we are attempting to follow the admonition from Philippians 1:27 to “stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.”

Already, the merger has yielded outstanding results, record growth, exciting expansion into new degree programs and athletic programs, recognition and influence in many new arenas. Your generous gift today or on Giving Tuesday will encourage us in these exciting days of working together for the gospel as we celebrate two significant anniversaries.

“GivingTuesday” is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world on December 3, 2019 and every day.

It was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.” – givingtuesday.org
