Lucille Bowman, faithful servant of Jesus Christ and lifelong ministry partner with her husband, Dr. Hoyle Bowman, passed away on May 27, 2020. The Bowmans left a lasting impact on their alma mater Carolina University through their various roles over 65 of the first 75 years of CU history.
The Bowmans graduated from Piedmont in 1955, and their life together was a wonderful journey that stretched over more than 66 years as she partnered with Hoyle through further education, pastorates and interim pastorates, mission trips, revivals, teaching career, and conferences that spanned both nationally and internationally. Lucille was recognized as the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. It has been said that without Lucille’s Christian life, testimony, influence, love, and support there would never have been a Dr. Hoyle E. Bowman. She was even instrumental in bringing him to saving faith in Jesus Christ.
The family that she loved so dearly shared how much she loved her Lord, her friends, cooking, working in her flowers, traveling and anything that she could use her God-given talents to do to help others. She served Piedmont for so many years in such capacities as Librarian, faculty and alumni secretary, in the cafeteria, and served so many students in helping them to type and edit their term papers or share wise advice. Whether helping her husband, family, church members, friends, students, or whomever God put in her path to touch, Lucille was faithful and obedient to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, until her last breath.
The Piedmont family is deeply grateful for the impact that Mrs. Bowman continues to have on University faculty, staff, students and others around the world knowing that her legacy will continue to influence many for years to come.
There will be a celebration of life service held at Grace Baptist Church, 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC on June 1, 2020 at 11:00 am followed by a private family burial.
