The faculty, staff, administration and student body are saddened by the tragic death of our promising freshman business major and soccer team member Emmanuel Konneh. Emmanuel’s accidental death occurred while swimming with friends this afternoon. A native of Liberia, Emmanuel was an outgoing sweet spirited person that enjoyed his friends and teammates and loved attending Carolina University. He was a graduate of Concord High School, where his family resides, and he had just entered the Patterson School of Business to pursue his management degree.
On behalf of the entire university family, we want express our sincerest and personal condolences to Emmanuel’s family, friends and fellow students across the campus who knew him well. His death is a loss of a very bright light to our university. We grieve with his teammates and family. We know he is in heaven and pray for peace to those suffering from his loss. We encourage you to seek counsel and solace from our staff services, the pastor’s provided on campus and off, and our health officials available on campus and on call.
Going forward, the university plans to celebrate Emmanuel’s life in several ways. News of these celebrations will be announced this week. It will take time to process this tragic accident. Our prayers go directly to Emmanuel’s family and teammates as we rally together, drawing strength from each other and our Lord.
