Carolina University Athletics is thrilled to have students back on campus! The energy is unmistakable as Fall Sport Student-Athletes moved in to begin practices this week and the rest of the students will check-in this weekend. Part of the excitement stems from a record number of student-athletes that are expected to compete this year, but the overwhelming buzz is surrounding their new home.

The Williams Gymnasium was beautifully redone to reflect the Carolina University brand and truly be a home for the Bruins. The renovations were afforded by the generosity of George A. “Abie” Williams for whom the facility is named. He has funded the purchase of the air conditioning units, branded gymnasium floor, new bleachers, new basketball goals and shot clocks, game day chairs, score table, storage building, Bruins branded signage, renovation to coaches’ offices, and other cosmetic enhancements. This project was led by Shealynn Miller, the Assistant to the Chancellor for University Advancement.

“Carolina University has been blessed by the generosity of George A. “Abie” Williams,” She said. “He has assisted in the transformation of our gymnasium over the last two years, into a high-caliber small college gymnasium. It is the University’s intention to continue to enhance our athletic facilities to provide better resources for our student-athletes. We cannot wait to get our students back on campus to host athletic events in our brand new home.”

Ms. Miller and our CU Facilities Team worked tirelessly this summer to ensure the project was completed to the highest of standards. The Athletic Department and all of our Bruins are so thankful for those efforts and to call this amazing facility home! We hope to see you all at a game soon – Go Bruins!
